It is a great pleasure for me to welcome my dear friend Irith, one of the very first experts on the RBDT boards, back to the forum as a pet expert this week.
Irith will be joining us to discuss The Premack Principle, a critical topic for pet owners and trainers looking to “wean off treats” in their training regimen and strengthen behavioral responses.
Irith Bloom has been training animals since the 1980s. She has been thrilled to see the dramatic advances in science-based animal training in the last decade, and now specializes in clicker training and other positive-reinforcement-based techniques of training and behavior modification. Irith’s goal is to make training fun for people and their pets. Although she spends much of her time training dogs, Irith also has experience training other animals, such as cats, rabbits, and horses.
Irith is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). In addition to running her business, The Sophisticated Dog, Irith volunteers at the West Los Angeles Animal Care Center and is one of National English Shepherd Rescue’s coordinators for the Western United States.
